I am an intermediate level Anishinaabe language tool to help you converse and learn Ojibwe.
I focus on verbs and how to conjugate them to express different sentences.
I presume a knowledge of the double vowel orthography (dont worry I include an explanation for how to read that orthography in the "About Us" section) as well as a basic familiarity with the Ojibwe language.
Working with me will show you how to use transitive and intransitive verbs in indicative, conjunct and imperative forms among other things. That is a fancy way of saying I will help you describe many actions, who is carrying them out, who they are acting upon. Plus, Ill help you learn how to "boss" people around in the language.
Pros and cons of Neechee app for iPhone and iPad
Neechee app good for
This is a ground-breaking language learning App that teaches users how to build simple sentences in Anishinaabemowin. It is the first of its kind to move beyond noun-based approaches and to teach users how to conjugate verbs and begin to speak in conversation - often a stumbling point for learners. It looks fantastic, it is easy to use and its a must have for any learner of Anishinaabemowin.
As an oral language and tradition I think this app would benefit from audio and video links to speakers who know the language, even for users to submit there own translations. I support bringing back the language to our people and our youth, but I expected a bit more from this app for it really to take off. I hope this app continues to grow and introduce this beautiful language to people who have lost access to their speakers.
Chi-miigwetch looking forward to updates and improvements in the future. Also dont forget to check out the Ojibway app, its free and has audio.
This is exactly what is needed. Im just getting used to the app, but it seems very user-friendly. Im getting the hang of some of the pronunciations and cant wait to dazzle Neechees at house parties. Chaaaaaaaa.
If you ever find yourself wanting to brush up on your "neechie"skills than this is the app for you! Weve all been there, pros and aspiring linguists, needing to find the proper wording! This is a great app to have and I also find that its a very good teaching tool as well! Download and support!
Ni-zhawendaan!!! I love it. This is the future of Anishinaabemowin learning. Gichi-Miigwech. Keep it up. Build on it.
Thanks for this awesome tool to help learn and use my language everyday! Mii-gwetch!
Some bad moments
As a non-speaker of the Ojibway language I need to hear the words and the sentences so that I can get the pronunciation correct. I also need to begin with the simple stuff-hello and goodbye. This app is not for me
Thought this app would have been better. It is a poor app! Not that much words. The words are not useful. Way to expensive. You will just be wasting your money if you buy. Very unhappy.
There is no sound.
This app has a lot of verbs but not much else.
The other Ojibway app that I have sounds out the word but it is not written out.
These two apps should get together and make one decent app.
